Export to AutoCAD FAQ

What version of AutoCAD do I need to import data from 4WIND?

Data can be imported to all full versions of AutoCAD from 2000 to 2006.   Data may also be imported to AutoCAD LT versions from 2000 to 2006, as well, with the aid of a supplemental program named LT-Extender 2000 Plus, which is a free download. Click Here To Download. Please note that the LT-Extender 2000 software does not operate in AutoCAD 2004 LT.

How do I import the data from 4WIND into the full version of AutoCAD?
  1. In the 4WIND program, select “Export” from the file menu, then “AutoCAD Export”.  Save the data file (.csv) to an easily accessible directory for retrieval.

  2. Open AutoCAD and select “Options” under the “Format” menu at the top of the screen.

  3. Within the “Files” tab of the Options menu, highlight “Support File Search Path” and click the “Add” button at right.

  4. Click the “Browse” button, scroll to the 4WIND file directory, then highlight the CAD subfolder by clicking on it with the mouse, then click on “OK”.  Click on the “Apply” button at the bottom of the “Options” menu to close the dialog box.

  5. At the AutoCAD command prompt, type “appload”.  In the dialog box that appears on the screen, scroll to the 4WIND directory and select the file labeled “SITable”.  Click on the “Load” button then close the dialog box.

  6. At the AutoCAD command prompt, type “SITable”.  You will then be prompted to browse for the csv data file that you exported from 4WIND.  Select this file and follow the prompts on screen to insert the data table.

How do I import data from 4WIND to an LT version of AutoCAD?

AutoCAD LT users will be required to download the LT-Extender program at the website listed above.  Install the software according to the manufacturer’s instructions then launch AutoCAD LT.

  1. Select “Options” under the “Format” menu at the top of the screen.

  2. Within the “Files” tab of the Options menu, highlight “Support File Search Path” and click the “Add” button at right.

  3. Click the “Browse” button, scroll to the 4WIND file directory, then highlight the CAD subfolder by clicking on it with the mouse, then click on “OK”.

  4. Click on the “Apply” button at the bottom of the “Options” menu to close the dialog box.

  5. You will notice that an LT-Extender 2000 menu bar appeared on your screen when you launched AutoCAD.    Click on the “Applications” menu, then “Load Application”.

  6. Scroll to the 4WIND file directory and select the file labeled “SITable”.  Click on the “Open” button which will close the dialog box.

  7. At the AutoCAD command prompt, type “SITable”.  You will then be prompted to browse for the csv data file that you exported from 4WIND.  Select this file and follow the prompts on screen to insert the data table.
How do I insert the graphic for the calculation type my table is based on?

After you have inserted the data table into your AutoCAD project, you will automatically be prompted to browse for a graphic to insert.  Scroll to the 4WIND file directory and click on the “CAD” subfolder where you will find graphics for the calculation types performed in 4WIND.  Select the appropriate file and click “OK” to close the dialog box.  Select the insertion point for the graphic and enter the appropriate scale factors when prompted.  Entering a scale factor of 1 at the x, y, and z scale factor prompts will insert the graphic at ¼” scale.  Click “Cancel” if no graphic is desired.

When I try to insert the csv data file into AutoCAD, I receive an error that the “SITable.dcl file could not be found”.  What do I do?

AutoCAD does not know where to the look for the “SITable.dcl” file.  You need to include the 4WIND file directory in the “File Support Search Path” directory located in the “Options” menu.  See How do I import the data from 4WIND into the full version of AutoCAD?”

I clicked on “Load Application” in the Applications menu of the LT-Extender menu bar, selected the SITable file and nothing happens.  What do I do?

This action only loads the SITable application into AutoCAD.  You must now type “SITable” at the AutoCAD command prompt to execute the program.
